senator john kerry who is very familiar with senator kerry actually played mitt romney in his debate prep. so they spent a lot of quality time together recently. the thing is everyone has known that senator kerry had an eye on the role of being the secretary of state to replace hillary clinton. his name was mentioned back in 2008 for that role as president obama considered who to put in for the cabinet. i think right now some of the conventional wisdom says that u.s. ambassador to the u.n. susan rice even though she's embattled over her comments on benghazi, she may be the favorite for that role. so you've got some trial balloons floating around here. we know there are a couple deputies to the secretary of defense who are also being considered for the role. we'll have to wait and see exactly how it plays out. >> all right, brianna keilar, you have a full plate. >> yes. >> thank you very much. >> next hour we'll get reaction to general allen now being tangled in this scandal. nic paton walsh will join us with perspective there. >> and tom fuentes from the fbi will join us to talk about all

? some say john kerry, some have speculated about susan rice, the embattled u.n. ambassador, stepping into hillary clinton's role. >> that sounds kind of farfetched, but who knows? anything's possible. certainly, the problem susan rice would have is because of what she said about the successful raid about islamist militants on the u.s. diplomatic outpost if benghazi being the fault of a youtube video, that was very bad for her. she would compound a problem that the departure of hillary clinton would help alleviate. state department's been really under close scrutiny because of the response to this. the lack of preparation for it, for the attack and the response thereafter, that's something they would like to get away from. putting susan rice in there would intensify it. megyn: last but not least, quickly, if geithner goes, i mean, that's an important job he has. and who is likely to fill that role, and how would it change americans', you know, day-to-day lives? >> well, what the president has in tim geithner's departure is an -- or assumed departure is an opportunity to send a message
